Because they look extremely attractive, and because they are water-resistant, slate and quartzite are extensively used in bathrooms, fountains, swimming pools and many other places where water is constantly present.
Both are fine-grained, metamorphic rocks that are formed by heat and great pressure within the earth. They derive their unique colour from mineral deposits in the area.
Slate is developed from shale. It contains flaky minerals such as mica, clay and chlorite and splits readily into thin flat sheets with a perfectly cleaved surface.
Quartzite is another name for quartz sandstone. It contains many small grains of quartz which give it a reflective or crystalline quality. Mostly, it is white or light colours. However, Indian quartzite is also available in blue, black, copper and green tones.
